“The important thing is not to stop questioning”
“If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the answer, I would spend the first 55 minutes figuring out the proper questions to ask. For if I knew the proper questions, I could solve the problem in less than 5 minutes.”
“Question everything”
“We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking we used when we created them.”
“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”
“Never lose a holy curiosity.”
- Einstein
I don’t really have to make much of a post, because these quotes by Time Magazine’s person of the century have a kind of life of their own. But I do want to add just a few things. In my own life questioning have played an important role, because if I never questioned the beliefs that were forced upon me by religion and society, I would not have found the answers I did. I would not have realized that most of what I believed was other people’s ideas of God and reality, and not the truth. In church I was not even supposed to question some things.
For instance I was not supposed to try and understand God, because as a human I simply could not. I was not supposed to question why I have to love and fear God at the same time. Nor was I supposed to question why Christianity was the one true religion and all the others were wrong. But I did anyway, and by questioning I found many satisfactory answers. It does not mean I now understand everything and am perfectly happy. But the answers I found is much more satisfactory than religion gave me and I now have a kind of map to guide me home.

Albert Einstein
The very fact that you have the ability to question must mean that God wants you to question. If he did not want you to question he would not have given you that ability. God gave you a brain as a tool to interpret reality. He didn’t give it to you so that it can become conditioned and in the process worship false ideals set up by other human beings. If there was such a thing as sin, it would be to never question and simply follow what other tell you to do. Some, if not most people, go through their whole lives like this. They never ask questions and therefor never makes any big discoveries.
All the great minds of the past were inquisitive minds. All the great discoveries were made by people who were not afraid to question the status quo. A paradigm shift occurs when a discovery is made which changes our basic assumptions of how the world works. Examples of this would be when it was first discovered that the world was round and not flat, that the earth was not the center of the universe, and that the earth revolved around the sun and not the other way around. Or Einstein’s theory of relativity itself which helped smash out views of time and space forever.
The people who made these kind of discoveries were called crazy for even suggesting such a thing could be true. In many cases they were also judged and punished for these discoveries. But once people became used to it and accepted it, our world changed forever. If these people did not question current assumptions, we would never have come closer to the truth. And whatever we believe to be the truth at this moment, WILL change in the future. Many people believe we are currently entering a period of unparalleled spiritual growth and understanding.
But it is also said that only people whose minds are open and are willing to let go of outworn world views, will benefit from this change. I think that this could well be the case because we are making so many discoveries these days of how the universe works and we are slowly but surely letting go of religious dogma and such things. We are beginning to understand just how interrelated we all are and that each individual’s actions affects the whole. For me this is a very exciting time to be alive because we are starting to realize our own divine nature.
So never stop questioning. Questions are your key to understanding and freedom.
