Obama Victorious as Health Care Plan Passes House

A while ago I did a post called America’s Health Care System in Shambles where I talked about the health care problems that Americans who can’t afford it are facing. Therefore it was great to see that a sweeping health care plan was passed on Sunday night. Obama definitely seems to be making good on his promises, and my belief in him is being justified. It was clear that something had to be done about the health care system. If you hear of stories about terrorists getting better health care than volunteers who were helping out after the 9/11, you know there is something wrong. And it is not like America can’t afford to provide proper health care for their citizens.

It is a matter of priorities. Despite all this the Democrats only had a narrow victory over the republicans of 220-115, and they needed 218 votes to pass the plan. Also, to pass the plan Democrats needed to make major concessions on insurance cover for abortions. Still, this has to be seen as a great victory as this plan will be a great relieve to Americans who can’t afford proper health insurance. The new health care plan will be paid for through new fees and taxes, as well as cuts in Medicare for elders, and it will provide coverage for 36 million people who does not currently have insurance, as well as creating a government health care insurance program.

And what is more is that it will end insurance company practices like not covering pre existing conditions and dropping people when they become ill. Can you believe that they even do that? Sometimes I find these things hard to believe. The new plan will force most Americans to get health insurance, and employers will have to provide medical cover or face tax penalties. There is still a lot of opposition to this new health care plan, and it still has to get legislation to the presidents desk. Republicans are saying among other things that the plan will wreck the economy. This is not necessarily the case as people can’t spend much when their health care is so expensive.

The republicans are just resisting change as they always do, but change is necessary and inevitable in certain cases. In fact change is the only thing that is certain in life. What this plan would do is relieve mounting anxiety over medical costs for many Americans and make them feel human again. The effect on the morale of the country is what matters, not how much money the rich will lose. It is time for America to get their priorities right and take care of the basic needs of their citizens. Lets hope this bill gets legislation to the presidents desk.  America seems to be heading in the right direction again thanks to Obama.
